{"id":5099,"date":"2016-03-04T00:20:41","date_gmt":"2016-03-04T00:20:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/heidesch.de\/blog\/?p=5099"},"modified":"2016-03-06T10:52:08","modified_gmt":"2016-03-06T10:52:08","slug":"glasgow-kelvingrove-and-hunterian-museum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/heidesch.de\/blog\/?p=5099","title":{"rendered":"Kelvingrove and Hunterian Museum in Glasgow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It takes about 20 minutes by foot\u00a0from Glasgow center to the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.glasgowlife.org.uk\/museums\/kelvingrove\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Kelvingrove Museum &amp; Art Gallery<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gla.ac.uk\/hunterian\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Hunterian<\/a><\/strong> venues on\u00a0the Glasgow University campus.<\/p>\n<p>I like the eccentric mixture in\u00a0British city museums and the Kelvingrove is not an exception.<br \/>\nAn area of the\u00a0museum is dedicated to art during the Holocaust. The objects are arranged in a corner and\u00a0\u00a0spread out along the aisle. On the other site allured a huge vitrine with an impressive Scottish sword collection the visitor. Hard to decide on what to look at.<br \/>\nThe current\u00a0temporary exhibition presents\u00a0etchings from the <em>war artist<\/em>\u00a0Percy Smith about the human tragedy of the WWI. Odd\u00a0to see a\u00a0<em>gas mask <\/em>on\u00a0an etching piece. The next cabinet states:\u00a0<em>I wanted to conquer Paris with an apple. Paul Cezanne. <\/em>The blackness of death and\u00a0the colour of\u00a0fruit easily come hand in hand here: look out for the unexpected in British Museums!<\/p>\n<p>What really got me today\u00a0was the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gla.ac.uk\/hunterian\/collections\/permanentdisplays\/\" target=\"_blank\">permanent display in\u00a0the\u00a0Hunterian Museum<\/a>. <em>The Hunterian<\/em> actually consists of\u00a0an art gallery, an anatomy museum,\u00a0a zoology museum and the Hunterian Museum. <em>The rather small\u00a0Hunterian\u00a0Museum\u00a0presents\u00a0archaeological, paleontological, geological, zoological, entomological, ethnographical and numismatic highlights.<\/em> The artefacts are\u00a0well-considered picked and affectionately presented and the exhibit hall gives a &#8211; not less then &#8211; superb impression.<\/p>\n<p>Both venues plus\u00a0a fish &amp; chips serving made a reasonable\u00a0day in Glasgow!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It takes about 20 minutes by foot\u00a0from Glasgow center to the Kelvingrove Museum &amp; Art Gallery and The Hunterian venues on\u00a0the Glasgow University campus.
